Lately I’ve been listening to folklore a lot (partly because August tbh) and the song Betty makes me cry? Like, sob + burning in throat cry? It’s not even a sad song -- just something about the youthful innocence of the lyrics and the cute harmonica just *obliterates* me emotionally
It's a very sweet song. I think she captured the earnestness of teenage love exactly. Have you listened to the song "Changing My Major" from Fun Home, the musical? That is my FAVORITE expression of young, hopeful love and stirs my heart every time.
I appreciate that you (and another Italian friend) both found resonance in that. I appreciate that I hit something even a smidge universal. Means a lot as I start writing these nonfiction essays!
