Hey thanks for sharing. I don't think I'll ever get to Tulsa. But I felt compelled to add a tangent. I had the good fortune to meet tunesmith Jimmy Webb at an ASCAP songwriters workshop. He said (about his song By the Time I get to Phoenix) that he had never been to Phoenix. That inspired me when I was writing a song about travel, called The Best Part of Going Away is Coming Home. I don't know why exactly, but it gave me license to put this into the chorus "I like people, I like culture, heck I even like the sushi in Tulsa", after finding out that Tulsa is apparently highly respected as a place to get great sushi. After your post, I can almost feel like I've been there too :D
This is SO nice to hear. I hope you do get to Tulsa someday and I hope you keep dreaming of faraway places!! Is the song available online? Can you link it here?
My hometown, never this cool then. A place to escape. But I did drive to Okemah to see the ruin of Woody Guthrie's House. It was kept in ruin because Woody was a Red. A certain Bob Dylan had a daubed mark that he was there in the remnant of the basement overfilled with rubbish.
Thanks Tara. I never recorded that song. I may have livestreamed it once or twice, but I didn't record those streams. The original was written as a Berklee assignment, and it went through many revisions before it became worth listening to. :)
I really enjoyed Tulsa, or the quadrant of it that I saw, when I was on a panel at the World of Bob Dylan conference June 1-4 or so. Not sure if you got to eat at the Dilly Diner, where I had breakfast every day and a few lunches too! The conscious community--artists, writers, progressives, LGBQT community, punches above its weight, and I'm really glad my posse of gracefully maturing rock critics got me out to see local star John Fullbright with band at Cain's Ballroom.
YES. I did not hit the diner but will for my next trip. I love that you and I had these great experiences! A show at Cain's is another to-do for my next time out: I only got to walk by. Also, is there video of this panel?! Are you a Dylanologist?
Am I a Dylanologist? No, but I maintain good diplomatic relations with those who may identify that way. I can play at it, but I'm not devout. I'm more of a song-and-dance man, a generalist, though I like to go deep on Dylan, Steely Dan, Springsteen, Stones, CBGB-era punk, and other era-defining artists or movements. Take a swing through my archives, if I numbered them I'd been working on #165. I think you'll like a lot that you find.
Wow, I've always viewed Tulsa with disdain, mainly for its history and I'm from Little Rock so there's football animosity but you made it interesting. My Dad oversaw the Murrah memorial in OKC for GSA and I haven't even considered crossing that border, now that he's gone...until I read this

Ah Tulsa, the Paris of Oklahoma :)
I never would have thought of Tulsa as a place to visit. But I will consider it for a cross country trip I hope to be taking next year.
Oh, PLEASE do! Hit me up if you need more suggestions.
Sounds wonderful, I’m sure you were missed by Matt and chickens!!
Oh and they were CERTAINLY missed! I talked to Matt every day and asked for so many photos of the babies.
Great pics.

Would love to see the lyrics and hope you record it someday!

I absolutely will!!

Oh, wow. Please consider visiting. I didn't get to OKC but would love it if you sent me more information especially if you go. It's a lovely town.
You made me recall my favorite Okie; the late "Sam-I-Am" Beard, former owner of the Pelicano Inn at Playa del Carmen.
Keep it up, Tara: I love what you do.
Rob in Yautepec
Thank you so much for reading, Rob!! I’m glad I could revive someone for you for a moment. ❤️

Go! I’ll come with you!! And yes, that Lambchop has been with me since I was a BABY and she is now part of every Christmas. 🎅🏻
I'm glad you had a great time. Really digging the Social Distortion shirt.
Thank you! It actually has a photo of the Sopranos cast above the logo. 😂
