We have a guest playlist from a beloved contributor: my friend Sam made this playlist for you all, and she describes it as such: “For those winter days when you know you need to get up. You don’t have to accomplish anything. You just have to move. These are all the songs it feels good to sway around in my room to when everything else is feeling hard.”
This is a short week since I released an Emmys recap late Monday:
58. Emmys Recap!
Now, we’ve all seen or heard how bad the Golden Globes speeches and upsets were, but, like many a drummer has thought about me, “damn, I want her back.” I was bored! The Emmys bored me! I was happy to see some deserved wins, like for Jennifer Coolidge on
I have an exciting announcement: I am doing a mini writing tour in Philly! In addition to a poetry reading hosted by Bullshit Lit at Tattooed Mom’s on 2/14, I am also reading at the
story slam on 2/15 at the Pen & Pencil Club. Thank you to Julie of for inviting me to read some of the until-now anonymous submissions I made, often at 3am in my feelings and halfway through a Phoebe Bridgers song. It’s going to be a juicy night! Tickets HERE.Here is the information for the Valentine’s Day event at Tmoms:
You can also preorder Bullshit Lit’s HORNS anthology, in which THREE of my poems appear, here. This will be the first time my writing is in print. If you have purchased the book, please let me know so I can personally thank you!
I am blessed to say that more news is to come: a few podcast appearances and some future published works. Thank you all for this support. For enjoying my words. For affirming that I have something to say, that I am funny, that my hardest hurts may mirror yours: I am reminded each time that no, I am not alone. Bless you. Thank you.
And now…
To read:
My good friend Mike Duquette, whose fucking fantastic movie novelization blog Hollywood & Spine I have mentioned a few times here already, has collated his existing work along with some new music reporting at Duque’s Delight. Mike is my age, but is basically your uncle who can tell you the exact dates of release for every Niles Rodgers feature. I saw E.T. for the first time with Mike, and we cried together which means we will be friends forever. I watched Gremlins 2 because of Mike’s blog, which means we will be friends even longer. He’s brilliant and he’s the best. His work, whether around fílm or deep deep music cuts, is so tenderly researched and written with singular insight. Go read his first post, a ranking of Steven Spielberg’s 1970’s films. I will take it very personally if you don’t.
And, in very Mike-friendly news, this article on the dedication of the John Williams Music Building at the Sony studios is quite poignant.
This GQ profile by Zach Baron on Martin Scorsese. It’s Marty. Read it. “I just wanna be as honest with myself as possible. And if I’m honest in the work, maybe I could be honest as a person. Maybe.”
I find a lot of mindfulness writing steeped in cliche, but
has offered a fresher approach here:“The audience is always the future to whom one has to speak the truth.” - Samia Halaby, in this looooooong-form interview on Palestinian Liberation Art. In cute friendship telepathy, I read this article before I opened the latest newsletter from
, who shared this concerning update: “Halaby’s abstract paintings are not explicitly political, but her first solo exhibit was just cancelled by Indiana University. Join me in signing this petition to reinstate Halaby’s show.“An Austrian heiress has formed a committee to oversee the distribution of 90 percent of her multimillion fortune.

Gremlins 2 is insanely funny!
Wishing you the all best! It is so exciting to read your stuff at an event!! I got to do something similar in November in Troy, NY. The event was called BraVa and readers had to read essays they wrote about the bras in their lives.
