I enjoyed Problemista so much! I knew nothing about it going in, just happened to be free for 2 hours on a saturday and went on a whim. Tilda stressed me out and Julio calmed both of us down. Also, I would 100% buy all of his toy pitches.
Since I agree with your reviews of about half the movies you mentioned, I guess I'm going to have to take your word for it and see the ones you mentioned that I haven't seen. I didn't know that about Spike and Hannah being sibs (and I can't remember if I knew Hannah's mother was Laraine Newman), but knowing that makes me want to see Problemista more, which doesn't make sense because just because I like one sibling doesn't mean I'll like the other (like, please no one ever compare me to my brother, please). And any movie that can be compared to Lost In Translation, The Little Mermaid, Barbie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Muppets Take Manhattan is obviously a must see. Except I haven't seen most of those movies in a really long time and now I need to watch them too. I feel like reading this booked up my whole weekend, so thanks :)
I've never seen A Quite Place movies (not my kinda thing). But I HAVE seen the trailer for A Quiet Place: Year One. So, there's going to be an origin story about these creatures. Don't know if John directed that, though. Don't remember. Also, I read that one of the creatures from the first movie was actually John Krasinski. He had to step in for some reason (I don't remember why) and he had to play the part. I, too, loved him in the Jack Ryan series. I've heard of the show he was on (The Office), but never watched it. I do remember that his character was a little nerdy LOL, so to see him as an action star in Jack Ryan was a very, very pleasant surprise. And I saw the last, maybe, 15-20 mins? of "13 Hours in Benghazi" (that was based on a true story), so there was an action-star-inkling going on there, but again, I didn't get the full effect until Jack Ryan. Really did love that series. Binged each season over a weekend whenever they dropped. Would love to see him in more roles like that.
It seems like he’s doing a lot of that military/action work, like Chris Pratt does, so you’re in luck there! John is not directing the new quiet place but I’m sure he’s a producer and might have had a hand in the script/story,
I actually was never privy to Mr. Torres and his previous work. What a wonderful weekday matinee smiler Problemista is! Agree with you on Pearl being a better made film than X in its craftsmanship. However I have a soft spot for the first since I am a big Texas Chainsaw Massacre fan, and it is such a strong homage.
Never saw the newer Suspiria, but now you have piqued my interest once again.
Don’t know if you have seen Neon Demon. That is my private little messed-up flick. When models start eating eyeballs, you know you’ve got something. Great read! Look forward to next week.
Yes! Every frame of Neon Demonis ART. The…what was it, janguar? Cougar? Whatever the fuck? Shit is burned into my brain as is the gold scene and the EYE.
P.S. Oh and Robyn always cures everything.
The only movie I saw was the quiet place, very scary!! As always a good read. 👏👏👏
I'm shocked you saw that!!

Absolutely!
